Jawana Kamal

Jawana Kamal is a senior at UAB majoring in English with a minor in Public Health and a member of the Honors College on the Personalized Pathway. She has been a Resident Assistant in Gold Hall for three years now and previously has worked with the REGARDS study at UAB. This semester, she began working with the UAB Student Affairs Marketing and Communication office. She hopes to one day become a published author and be an editor at an esteemed publishing house.

First and foremost, Jawana believes in the power of telling stories—whether that's her own, or those of marginalized individuals around the world. She's passionate about writing as a tool to shine light upon and capture the reality of people's lives. With a particular interest in women's rights and labor movements, she is very excited for the chance to learn how to appropriately research and discuss human rights throughout her internship at the UAB Institute of Human Rights.
