My name is Nunaya Polycarp. I earned my B.S. in Biology from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Harris Lab, where I study stem cells and aging. Specifically, my research focuses on evaluating the therapeutic potential of the small molecule RT175 (an immunophilin ligand) in targeting FK506-binding proteins to regulate cell lineage specification, mitochondrial function, and tissue regeneration in the context of aging. Using preclinical age-related models, I aim to understand the role of RT175 in defining cellular potential and its associated downstream signaling pathways. Our lab is broadly interested in uncovering mechanisms that promote healthy aging and long-term tissue homeostasis through the study of melanocyte stem cells. After completing my Ph.D., I hope to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry, specializing in drug development and preclinical trials.
