The UAB Collat School of Business is making strides to ensure that Alabama’s workforce is ready for the future.
Collat Professional Education has introduced four career advancement courses designed to help working professionals learn new skills in fast-evolving areas.
As Alabama’s largest employer, UAB is helping lead the charge in ensuring that Alabama’s workers are equipped with the skillsets that make professionals competitive in an ever-changing world. The new courses include AI Prompting, AI Automation, Business Analytics, and Digital Marketing.
The new courses are cohort based and include both asynchronous work and Zoom meetings led by an industry expert to reinforce learning. The length of the courses varies from five to 10 weeks and are designed to help professionals at all levels develop practical real-world skills.
“Technology is transforming every industry, from healthcare and logistics to manufacturing and public service, and Alabama’s workforce must adapt quickly to remain competitive,” said Haley James Nolen, program manager for Collat Professional Education. “These programs don’t just teach new skills; they empower professionals to confidently take the next step in their careers and strengthen the economic resilience of our region.”
For this initiative, UAB is collaborating with Ziplines Education, an industry leader in delivering educational content that helps to bridge the gap between higher education and workforce demands.
According to labor market data from Lightcast, skills related to AI, data analytics, and digital marketing are growing. The data projects that 71% of job postings in the Birmingham area will require generative AI skills within the next two years.
