The Collat Career Center team was recently acknowledged for excellence, receiving two awards at the Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers (AACE)'s Annual Summer Conference.
Audiovisual Program of the Year
The Career Center team was honored with the Audiovisual Program of the Year award for their dynamic, alumni-focused presentation “First Impressions Matter: Building a Resume that Wows.” This engaging program provides students with a practical, modernized guide to resume building from using impactful language to tailoring applications for specific industries and navigating applicant tracking systems. Designed to help students stand out in today’s technology-driven recruitment process, the presentation demonstrates the team’s creativity and commitment to preparing students for career success.
Outstanding New Professional of the Year: Tristan Buie

Tristan Buie was named Outstanding New Professional of the Year (2024–2025). This award is presented to an AACE member with less than three years of service who has already made significant contributions to the profession. Tristan was nominated by colleagues who praised his patience, individualized approach, and dedication to helping UAB business students succeed.
“Tristan sets himself apart in his approach to coaching UAB business students," said Rita Stewart-Hampton, director of the Collat Career Center. "I have personally witnessed his patience with students as they get upset about the many stressful aspects of their college journey. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Tristan identifies the student’s unique strengths, interests, and learning styles, and tailors coaching sessions and interventions accordingly.”
